To start out I would like to say this is a great read. If you have not read it you are missing out. The writing is top notch, the characters are believable (although extreme), and there is plenty of action.
This is a very descriptive novel, but if your a fan of this genre, then great! Plenty of blood, gore, intestine dragging and eating, etc...
I have this in my list of favorite zombie reads, and you will not go wrong with it.
Spoiler Alert!
Stop reading here if you do not want to know more about the plot.
As above this is a greatly entertaining book with a lot going for it. I still am not sure how I feel about zombies that are taken over by other entities. If they are not mindless walking, crawling, flesh eating monsters are they still zombies?
In this novel the dead are inhabited by (demons, devils, fallen angels) entities from another void (dimension maybe). I give him high marks on originality, but I think I prefer the standard zombie, although he makes this work within his writing.
This book has it's share of typecast characters. The scientist is markedly single sighted in purpose and can not see the obvious potential problems in his work, and then is deeply ashamed at what he has done. The soldier's are predictably the bad guys, and you are almost glad when the zombies get them. These are not major problems though as the characters trying to survive against the zombies is only part of the fun. I also enjoy the interaction with other survivors.
The book is well done and edited. You do not have to struggle through the novel stumbling over misspelled words or sloppy writing (yes, I have read books from Publish America and Lulu). So if you prefer the more professionally done novels, then this meets that mark.
You will enjoy reading this one.
