Autumn is a very enjoyable novel. Again, I am reviewing one on my favorite's list. One of the perks of not doing this for a living. (although I will not be upset if anyone clicks on the advertisements, maybe one day it could be my job). I am just a fan, and I can choose how and what I review.
This book starts out with a very rapid spread of an unknown disease that infects and kills in seconds. Only a small percentage of the population is immune. Right from the start we see this is going to be tough for the survivors.
Stop here if you do not want the plot to be spoiled!
My main interest is this carefully crafted group of characters, and there interactions with one another. First they are introduced facing this devastating event, which is heartbreaking and the author conveys this well. Then the dead slowly start to come back. First they are just reanimated, but with no apparent purpose. Gradually they develop into the eating machines we all love to be terrorized by. The slow change gives more opportunity for the author to build on the characters. They meet up and join together along with a larger group.
By the time the zombies are to the attack phase our main group is in disagreement with the larger group of survivors and decide to strike out on their own. These three leave town to look for a quiet place to wait out this dark time. This leads to searching the country side for supplies, finding a location, a split of the main group and a very interesting scene requiring an exciting escape.
We are lucky, there are already sequels to this book.
Some notes. This book is in print and is free online. I reccomend buying the book. I think the editing is much better and is a better product. Also this helps make sure we get more books from the author. I believe this book is also being made into a movie.
